Some biggest lies we need to correct about sugar

All that we know about sugar from our childhood is that sugar is something that tastes great on its own and it makes everything taste great after it has been put in.

Sugar is definitely not the healthiest thing but there are many misconceptions and lies revolving around how the sweet stuff affects your health. There are many questions such as if some kinds of sugar are better than others. And if skipping sugar in your meal completely can accelerate your process of losing weight, tackling acne, and other health concerns.

Too many questions and the answers may leave you stunned, it might be something that you could have never thought of. Here is GangaKhed Sugar clearing some biggest misconceptions about sugar and its effects on our bodies and health.

1. Every kind of sugar is bad for you

You must be hearing all the time that you need to limit your sugar consumption anyhow as any type of sugar content is extremely harmful to your health. But there is a catch. Not all types of sugar are the same and not every one of them is harmful. The one which adversely affects your health is processed or added sugar. The added sugar is the one that you intentionally add in your tea and coffee to enhance its taste, the brown sugar you add in your cookies and the honey you add in your yoghurt or green tea to make it taste a bit better, says GangaKhed Sugar owner.

This added sugar is completely different from fthe naturally occurring one. The one you find in naturally occurring products like fruits and milk. This type of sugar comes with a set of vitamins, minerals, and other important nutrients that can even help you combat the negative aspects of sugar content. For instance, the fibre present in fruits is there to absorb the sugar at a slower rate. Also, there are food facts that say naturally occurring sugar is lower in sugar than the added one. A cup of fresh fruits will contain the same amount of sugar as in a mini packet of sweet snacks with added sugar.

With that being said, not every sugar is the same and not every one of it is harmful. Feel free to consume naturally occurring sugar with an eye on the added sugar consumption.

2. Less or no processed sugar is the best to consume

It is true that sugar is harmful, but provided that it is processed too much. The minimally or no processed sugar like honey or maple syrups are not that bad for health as they are stuffed with good nutrients as compared to the highly processed ones, like white and brown sugar. But any type of sugar it is has nothing to do with your diet or your weight-losing regime. The nutrients present in these less-processed sugar are too small that they won’t have a visible impact on your health.

For your body, every source of sugar is the same as it breaks down every type of sugar into simple sugars called monosaccharides. There is no special treatment for less processed sugar. So, the type of sugar you consume will not affect your weight, according to Gangakhed news.

3. You should completely stop consuming sugar

You can not cut on sugar completely from your diet. Many different health organizations of the world have different recommendations on how much sugar should be consumed by a human in a day. But the bottom line is that all of them agree to the fact that there should be a small room in your diet  for sugar.

Every organization has its verdict but they all merge at a conclusion that having sugar in moderation isn’t going to affect your health.

4. Sugar can make you sick

Since time immemorial, you might be hearing that sugar can make you vulnerable to deadly diseases like cancer, diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease. The truth is eating sugar in moderation is not going to harm your health, neither is to going to reduce years from your life. The universal fact is that nothing is harmful until you overdo it.

While moderate sugar intake will not be a risk for your health, too much consumption of it can, so does too much of potato chips or brown rice.

The real problem is calories, says Ratnakar Gutte, irrespective if the source. Excess of calories in your diet, from any xyz source can put you at high risk of gaining weight or even getting sick.

5. You can get addicted to sugar like a drug

The only point where consumption of sugar and drugs converge is that intake of both the substances releases chemicals in your brain that stimulate the feeling of pleasure and delight. But that doesn’t give grounds to the assumption that sugar can addictive to anyone, just like drugs. Researches suggest that some people may find sugar items to stabilize their blood sugar level. While there is a debate going on for sugar has addictive properties like drugs, you can help lessen your cravings by switching your food environment.

6. Sugar-free alternative are better than sugar

If your also find yourselves tempted to the sugar-free or no-calories sweets, then it is an alarming situation for you. Making a swap may backfire and harm you more.

There are still questions on how these sweeteners affect your body but GSEL Maharashtra suggests that these no-calorie or sugar-free sweeteners are associated with various health issues including Type-2 Diabetes and obesity.

Sugar is an integral part of every living being present on the planet. Definitely, it is not healthy, neither it is the evil poison that fake beliefs have made it. However, too much of it may cause your health to suffer a bit, it is totally fine to consume a little of it daily. Go ahead and grab your favourite sweet snacks without any guilt.
