Gangakhed Sugar & Energy Limited Owner- Ratnakar Gutte

 OVERVIEW

India's sugar industry is substantial. Over 525 mills generated over 30 million tonnes of sugar during the most recent crushing season, which runs from October to April. As a result, it surpasses Brazil to overtake it as the world's top producer. Over 50 million farmers and millions more workers are employed in the sugarcane industry. India is currently the world's greatest sugar user.

Sugar is produced in 124 countries, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. However, if replacement sweeteners like gur (jaggery) and khandsari (a type of raw sugar) are taken into account, India would overtake other countries to become the world's top producer of sugar. Brazil produces 42.05 million metric tonnes of sugar, whereas India contributes 33.76 million metric tonnes.

India has been producing sugar since antiquity, and later it spread to other parts of the world. Sugarcane is a tropical plant that is indigenous to the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. Three times a year, in October, March, and July, sugarcane is planted, depending on the location of the nation.

ABOUT US

Renewal Energy Policy

Energy inputs are necessary for the operation of every sector of the economy, including agriculture, manufacturing, transportation, commerce, and residential use.

Due to the increasing demand, limited supply, and high expense of fossil fuels as well as government programmes that encourage the use of biofuels, finding sources of renewable energy has become essential in the twenty-first century. Although it currently only accounts for 3% of the entire power market, renewable energy is predicted to grow significantly over the next few years, making the RENEWABLE ENERGY POLICY necessary.

1.       For Sugar

Sugar is one of the main products made by Gangakhed Sugar & Energy Limited. In order to maximise sugar recovery, lower losses and shipping costs, and maintain friendly relationships with the agricultural community, the company has implemented a variety of initiatives. To use cutting edge cane development procedures, the farmers have undergone extensive training. As a result, the crushing season has been prolonged past the current 160-day average without affecting sugar recovery. To encourage farmers to employ more sophisticated agricultural practises and so ensure a consistent supply of cane to sustain the business, village centres have been established.

The various cane development initiatives are:

In order to subsidise irrigation on 1000 acres of land, the state government has implemented a drip irrigation programme.

In order to improve the quality of sugar cane, the firm has purchased and set aside a space next to the factory where a programme to generate foundation seeds is being run. .

Satellite mapping is used to monitor the number of crops cultivated within a 100 km radius of Gangakhed, as well as any new cane-growing land that becomes available. It has been applied for the past two years.

·

Farmer assistance using technology In addition to providing farmers with financial assistance, the company also educates them and provides technological support for superior seeds, fertilisers, and cutting-edge production methods.

Software constructed especially for the job: Specialized software has been developed to speed up every process, from farmer registration to cane delivery to the sugar refinery.

·2.       Co-generation electricity (Green Power)

Co-gen power is GSEL's main source of income. It has a 60 KLPD distillery, a 6000 TCD sugar processing plant, a 1.8 MW co-generation power plant, and a 30 MW co-generation power plant.

The boiler and turbine in the 150 TPH co-generation power plant work at a pressure and temperature combination of 110 kg/cm2 and 5350 °C to maximise the co-generation power output from renewable fuel sources. To improve bagasse cogeneration, energy-efficient equipment has also been installed. Waste from the distillery is also used to generate energy and steam for the plant. The most advanced invention in the sector is this 1.8 MW co-generation power plant.

3.       Distillery

To create ethanol, rectified spirit, extra neutral alcohol, denatured spirit, and other products needed in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and alcohol industries, molasses, a waste product from the production of sugar, is distilled. Ethanol is another practical alternative fuel. Ethanol can be made straight from sugarcane juice.

The solid content of sugarcane is around 15%. Theoretically, assuming 88% fermentation efficiency and 98% distillation, one kilogramme of sugar may result in 0.555 litres of alcohol. A sugar mill normally produces 11.5 tonnes of sugar and 4 tonnes of molasses from 100 tonnes of sugarcane. 1,060 litres of alcohol may be produced from this amount of molasses. But if cane juice is used instead, nearly 6,300 litres of alcohol may be made.
